These events were a success in 2024, so we are bringing them back in 2025 plus the Strike Derby!

Championship Clash - Thursday 3 July 2025

An optional event initially open to one bowler from each team, plus the winner from last year.

Due to a last minute drop out we had 12 bowlers compete in the 2025 Championship clash sponsored by SW1 Coaching

Starting in reverse order, Steve Weston of Incrediballs was the first to bowl and we had a roll off in the first round between Steve, Paul McArdle of Three Amigo's and Chris Kibble of MAABOF who all scored 7 in the first round. A one ball roll off determined the last place when Steve rolled a 6, Paul 8 and Chris got a strike.

There was a fantastic atmosphere with plenty of support from non-playing team members and a total of ten exciting roll-offs, even down to the final frame. Last year's Champion Trevor Hammond-Thayre finished in third place this year with a total of six strikes. His son Lewis Hammond bowled superb all night with also a total of six strikes, but after a two ball roll-off in the final match, he was beaten by Glen Relph who struck against Lewis' 9 count. Glen had a grand total of 9 strikes all evening!

Congratulations to Glen Relph, our 2025 Championship Clash winner!

Strike Derby - Thursday 10 July 2025

The top twelve teams will select one bowler, he/she will have to bowl as many strikes as possible in 120 seconds. All twelve bowlers will bowl and the top eight will go head to head in a seeded knock out round.

Teams will be asked to select a bowler before our singles step ladder final takes place.

Who is your best striker?

Twelve competitors battled it out to beat the clock and get as many strikes as they could in 120 seconds. To ensure we were inclusive of all levels and abilities, we altered the format slightly, starting the clock when both the pin deck was ready and the ball was back and stopping it when the ball hit the pins.

Starting with twelve bowlers, the top 8 competed in quarter-finals, and then the top 4 in semi-finals until the final match with Steven Flynn and Mark Cox.

The highest number of strikes across the nights was ten, the lowest was one.

Congratulations to Mark Cox, the winner of this event!

Colin Hall Memorial Cup - Thursday 17 July 2025

A great success last year, we raised £3227.50 for Dementia UK and Macmillan Cancer Support in the memory of Colin Hall.

The event will consist of two qualifying games at trio pace. The top 16 will advance to a seeded match play knockout. This is a handicap event open to all bowlers with an average over 9 games at Hollywood Bowl Crawley.

Steve Flynn was the 2024 Champion, who will take home the trophy this season?

44 bowlers plus plenty of supporters turned out for the second Colin Hall Memorial Cup charity event held on Thursday 17 July 2025. We had a diverse range of bowlers this year including our Crawley YBC juniors, team Sussex bowlers and members from nearby bowls.

After the initial two games, the top 16 went on to play a further single game knockout, down to the top 8, top 4 and finally the top 2 bowlers. The final this year saw brother and sister Rob and Sue Metcalfe go head to head in an exciting final match. Sue had a solid 175 scratch game with only two open frames, but Rob secured the lead with five consecutive strikes giving him a 218 scratch game. With their handicaps it was 234 for Sue V 257 for Rob giving us a new Colin Hall Memorial Cup Champion.

Congratulations to Rob Metcalfe, the 2025 Colin Hall Memorial Cup Champion

The cup was presented by Pauline Hall, Colin's wife.

£1220 has been raised for our two charities!

Thank you to all the businesses who donated a raffle prize for the 2025 Colin Hall Memorial Cup.

This year we have raised £1220 in total, and will be splitting that evenly between Dementia UK and MacMillan Cancer Support. Thank you to everyone who took part in this event.
